The East Coast Railway (ECoR) celebrated Rajbhasha Fortnight at its headquarters, Rail Sadan, to promote the usage of Hindi in official work in line with the Government of India’s Official Language Policy. Various activities were organized, engaging both officers and staff to enhance their participation in the use of Hindi in day-to-day work.

Addressing the meeting, East Coast Railway General Manager, Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal, emphasized the need for increased use of Hindi in official communications, particularly in online applications, e-office works and noting works. He advised the workforce to use Hindi in files and notings, thus aligning with the objectives of the Rajbhasha initiative.

General Manager further highlighted the following steps to reinforce the use of Hindi across all levels:

• Officers and staff should prioritize drafting official notes and correspondence in Hindi.

• A dedicated Rajbhasha e- Patrika (Magazine) will have reference materials and tippanis (official notes) to encourage Hindi usage.

• Regular inspections of Stations and Divisional Units will be conducted to monitor and support the promotion of Hindi in official tasks.

As part of the celebrations, a series of competitions were organized among officers and staff, including essay writing, debates, short story writing, and noting and drafting contests—all conducted in Hindi. The enthusiasm and participation reflected a growing commitment to fostering the official language.

On the concluding day, Additional General Manager Shri Mohes Kumar Behera, Principal Heads of Departments including Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Shri Alok Sahay were present in the meeting.

This Rajbhasha Fortnight, which coincides with Hindi Day, serves as a reminder of ECoR’s commitment to making Hindi a functional and integral part in its work culture.
