Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi has officially submitted his nomination papers in Wayanad for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In addition, he organized a roadshow in the constituency where he emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with a significant margin of over four lakh votes. Previously, Rahul Gandhi served as the MP of Amethi from 2004 to 2019. In the 2019 elections, he took a cautious approach and filed nominations from both Amethi and Wayanad. Amethi, historically a stronghold of the Congress party, had been represented by four members of the Gandhi family in the past—Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi himself. However, in the 2019 elections, Rahul Gandhi faced defeat in Amethi against BJP candidate Smriti Irani by a margin of 55,000 votes. Currently, there is no news regarding Rahul Gandhi’s plans to reclaim his previous stronghold or whether the Congress party’s partner, the Samajwadi Party, will contest from there. It remains uncertain if Rahul Gandhi will field another high-profile candidate or if he will personally contest from Amethi again. During his recent visit to Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi arrived by helicopter at Muppainad village and then proceeded to Kalpetta by road, as stated by the Congress party. From Kalpetta, he conducted a roadshow, accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries KC Venugopal and Deepa Das. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi will be contesting against BJP state president K Surendran and CPI leader Annie Raja in the Wayanad constituency. As the general elections approach, the campaigning efforts of political parties and the enthusiasm of the people are in full swing. Recently, Prime Minister Modi held public rallies in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, and Kotputli, Rajasthan. During these rallies, he launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, responding to his remark suggesting a potential “conflagration” in the country if he were to get a third term. The Prime Minister urged the people to eliminate the Congress party from all corners, stating that he was being threatened and abused by the corrupt, but there will be consequences.
Rahul Gandhi files his nomination from Wayanad.
