Mootv Odisha / Bhubaneswar : City police on Friday busted a SIM box racket at Laxmisagar here and detained an alleged cyber fraudster. Seven SIM boxes were recovered from the rented house. Police said the boxes, that can accommodate hundreds of SIMs, are usually used for call masking, intercepting international and local calls, diverting calls for cyber fraud and also for sending bulk text messages. “It is being investigated for what purpose/s, the SIM boxes were being used. During the raid, it was found that the boxes were live with SIM cards inserted,” said DCP Prateek Singh.

Police declined to divulge the name of the detained person as investigation is yet to be completed. The man had been staying in the rented house for the past seven months. The SIM boxes, more than 500 SIM cards, wires, cords and switch panels were found. Police seized all the documents and devices for forensic examination.“Based on intelligence reports, police had kept a watch on his activities and the house where he had been staying. The special squad conducted the raid with forensic teams under the supervision of the DCP,” said city police commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.
