Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar jail after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections, marking the end of his interim bail. His journey to the jail was a winding one, starting from his home around 3 pm, with stops at Rajghat to pay respects to Mahatma Gandhi, the Hanuman mandir, and finally the party headquarters. This last stop marked his return to the jail after being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court 21 days earlier.

Addressing party workers at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters, Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court, stating that his interim bail had been productive. He emphasized that he utilized every minute of the 21 days, campaigning for all parties and working to safeguard the country, placing the country’s interests above those of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Kejriwal highlighted that the campaign’s most significant outcome was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s admission that he lacked any evidence against him. He accused the Central government of dictatorship, questioning how a Chief Minister of a government with a sweeping majority could be incarcerated without evidence, characterizing it as a dictatorial act with the intent of sending a message to the entire country.

Accompanied by his wife Sunita Kejriwal and party leaders, Kejriwal, accused in the Delhi liquor policy case, has been in jail since April 1 until receiving relief from the Supreme Court. His time in Tihar was marred by controversy over his diabetes and medication. He and his party alleged that the authorities withheld his medication, while the Enforcement Directorate claimed that he consumed food unsuitable for diabetics.

Despite requesting an extension of his bail on health grounds and receiving no immediate relief, Kejriwal expressed uncertainty about the treatment he would receive this time. He emphasized that as disciples of Bhagat Singh, they were going to jail to save the country, portraying jail as a responsibility when power becomes a dictatorship.
