In the upcoming sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, a staggering 11.13 crore people are set to exercise their right to vote. Among them, 5.84 crore are men, 5.29 crore are women, and there are 5,120 third gender electors eagerly waiting to cast their ballots. These individuals will play a crucial role in determining the fate of 889 candidates vying for victory across 58 seats.
On May 25, the regions that will witness this democratic spectacle are as follows:
Delhi: The vibrant city of Delhi will witness voting in all its major constituencies, including Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi. The diverse voices of the capital will be heard loud and clear.
Haryana: The state of Haryana will see voting in its key regions, such as Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Hisar, Karnal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. The people of Haryana will contribute their perspectives to the democratic process.
Uttar Pradesh: The populous state of Uttar Pradesh will play a significant role in the sixth phase, with voting taking place in Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shrawasti, Domriyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr, and Bhadohi. The voices of millions will echo through the ballot boxes.
West Bengal: The vibrant state of West Bengal will have several constituencies participating in the electoral process, including Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur. The rich cultural tapestry of Bengal will be reflected in the voting booths.
Jharkhand: In Jharkhand, the voters of Giridih, Dhanbad, Ranchi, and Jamshedpur will come forth to make their choices and shape the political landscape of their state.
Bihar: The state of Bihar will witness voting in Valmiki Nagar, Paschim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Gopalganj (SC), Siwan, and Maharajganj. The people of Bihar will exercise their democratic rights to elect their representatives.
Jammu & Kashmir: The Anantnag-Rajouri seat in Jammu and Kashmir, which had its election postponed from phase three to the sixth phase due to logistical issues caused by adverse weather conditions, will finally have its voters participate on Saturday.
Odisha: Last but not least, the regions of Bhubaneswar, Puri, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar (SC), Cuttack, and Sambalpur in Odisha will also be part of the democratic process, as voters make their voices heard.
As this crucial phase approaches, the nation eagerly awaits the outcome of this grand exercise in democracy. The fate of the candidates, the aspirations of millions, and the future of the country hang in the balance, all to be decided by the power of the vote.In a statement issued on Friday, the poll panel said the India Meteorological Department has predicted “no adverse impact” of cyclone in poll-going constituencies. But it gave no details.
The Election Commission has urged the voters in the urban centres, including Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad to break the trend of urban apathy by coming out in large numbers to vote on Saturday.
The last phase of polling will be on June 1 for the remaining 57 seats with counting of votes scheduled on June 4.
